This download contains a two Virtual Machine set for evaluating and demonstrating Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010. Virtual machine “a” contains the following pre-configured software:
1. Windows Server 2008 SP2 Standard Edition x64, running as an Active Directory Domain Controller for the “CONTOSO.COM” domain with DNS and WINS
2. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP2 Enterprise Edition with Analysis, Notification, and Reporting Services
3. Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007 R2
4. Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 Ultimate Edition
5. Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise Edition Beta 2
6. Microsoft Office Web Applications Beta 2
7. FAST Search for SharePoint 2010 Beta 2
8. Microsoft Project Server 2010 Beta 2
9. Microsoft Office 2010 Beta 2
10. Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2
Virtual machine “b” contains the following pre-configured software:
1. Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Evaluation Edition x64, joined to the “CONTOSO.COM” domain
2. Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Active directory has been preconfigured over 200 “demo” users with metadata in an organizational structure.
All of these user profiles have been imported and indexed for search within SharePoint Server 2010, with “contoso\administrator” granted administrator permissions. SharePoint Server 2010 has been configured in a “Complete” farm using Kerberos authentication and the default SQL Server 2008 instance for data, and has a site collection created using the Team Site template at http://intranet.contoso.com/ and a FAST Search Center at http://intranet.contoso.com/search/.
Performance Considerations 1. If possible, unpack and run the VM image on a separate, fast hard drive (7200 RPM or better) from the operating system of the host machine.
If this is being done on a laptop, a second internal drive or external eSATA drive works best, though USB 2.0 (make sure it's 2.0, 1.1 is too slow) or Firewire is acceptable.
For absolute best performance use a second internal SSD drive.

The activity feed in SharePoint 2010 is very interesting. It is a way to see and read what your co-workers are doing. Most of your actions in SP2010 will end up in the activity feed.

Great place to have a training
SharePoint 2010 Release now under developmentWe are working on the third release of guidance targeting SharePoint 2010. The release is focusing on application models for SharePoint 2010. We are covering the different coniderations to developing server and client logic in that release, including help developers and architects understand and make decisions regarding execution models including sandbox, full trust, and hybrid (combining full trust and sandbox) applications, client side use of AJAX, Silverlight, client side object model, and REST, and some of the fundamentals for building manageable applications like logging and managing configuration. We are now posting drops and actively monitoring the discussion area for feedback. We'd love to get your feedback on what we are providing.

Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog : SharePoint 2010 List View Blog Series: Part 2 - Using the New SharePoint Lists
SharePoint 2010 List View Blog Series: Part 2 - Using the New SharePoint Lists
Hi! I'm Jason Morrill, another Program Manager on the SharePoint team. I wanted to write a bit about what it feels like to use SharePoint lists with the new user experience. If you've got a SharePoint site sitting around, I'd encourage you to open it in another window and follow along as I talk about things.
Let's start by just browsing to a document library with no content.
The first thing you'll notice is that we've moved some of the navigation and menus around. The stuff right in the middle (Site Name > Document Library > All Documents) is your current location. You can click on the Site Name to get back home, and you can click on the view name (All Documents) to switch to another view. Above the title, you see there's a black row - this is where you go to access all your commands. I’ll talk more about that later. Below the title, you see the list view items. Right now there are no items, so let's fix that. ….

Visualizing Data using XSLT: Following up on SPC 2009’s session on Building SharePoint Mashups With SPD, Bing Maps and REST Services
There’s been a lot of interest in the demo that was done at the SharePoint Conference where we used XSLT to visualize a contact list as a map. We have existing information out there on this topic so we wanted to bring it all together in one blog entry. I’ll also walk through the XSL file that was used in our demo and provide some pointers on how to use it for your own development.

Windows SharePoint Server 3.0 with SP2 is available as a free download, and trial versions of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 are available and supported for use in this upgrade/migration process:
