693 PowerShell cmdlets in SharePoint 2010 « Dmitry’s PowerBlog: PowerShell and beyond

 

SharePoint has for a long time been a notable absentee at the PowerShell party – but the wait is now almost over. Technical Preview of the product shared by Microsoft just a few days ago has 693 some number (see my update at the bottom of the post) PowerShell cmdlets – which should (by sheer number) cover all the tasks administrators should ever want to accomplish. Stsadm and psconfig are still in the build (for backwards compatibility ) but I bet PowerShell will just take SharePoint administration by storm now.

Valÿ Greavu has published this information along with a few other SharePoint 2010 tidbits and screenshots on his Romanian blog (here’s a Google Translate version).

Valÿ does not provide details or examples on the cmdlets, however, I could track some in the “Customizing the Ribbon in Windows® SharePoint® Services

In Visual Studio 2010, you’ll be able to create list and site level workflows as well as create aspx association and initiation forms. And, as you would expect, the new Visual Studio 2010 designers can be used to create Web Parts, application pages, and user controls for a SharePoint site (see screenshot, below.)

Office Client Developer Content and Resources : New features in Outlook 2010!

You can customize these areas using Ribbon extensibility, and supply Ribbon XML to the GetCustomUI method of the IRibbonExtensibility interface. Use the Ribbon ID for the feature to determine the XML to pass as a returned value in the GetCustomUI method. Your Ribbon XML typically supplies callbacks that let you respond to a button click, or control visibility or the icon of your Ribbon controls. Use the IRibbonControl.Context object to identify the active window containing the user interface that triggers the callback procedure.

Documentation for the Solutions module and customizing Outlook user interface is currently available to participants of the Technical Preview program. Most developer documentation for Outlook 2010 new features will be available to the public before the launch of Office 2010. I will keep you all posted about further documentation availability.
